Architecture | Urban Intervention
As part of the overall urban design project which involved creating a master plan for the extension and partial re-planning of Mapusa city in Goa, India, we were required to develop and design one of the public spaces/blocks within the city. For this, we proposed a business hotel and recreational center along the Tar rivulet (the banks of which were currently used as a site for squatters), thereby revitalizing it as well as using the added benefit of it being a scenic area. It was proposed to develop the area edged by the Tar rivulet, opening the city toward it, revitalizing it and providing green-ways, interesting and viable business’s and recreational facilities(restaurants/cafes/coffee shops/ ice cream parlors/art galleries/sports facilities) creating urban mobility along the waterfront along with high-end retail facilities mixed with residential throughout the remainder of the site. This development will in addition to providing for the general public, become a popular destination within Mapusa and also draw tourists from the neighboring areas of Calangute, Anjuna etc.
