Extraterrestrial Architecture | Mars Habitat
This project rethinks all facets of architectural design, from material to fabrication by applying an additive manufacturing process to remotely fabricate an entire enclosure protecting equipment and human inhabitants of the first Mars dwelling. The design focuses on creating a layered habitat with an imperative to give its inhabitants visual connection to the landscape beyond the habitat. Vertical gardens within the habitat provide a break in the monotony of Mars’s desert landscape, while contributing to food and oxygen production. The structure , aside from providing living and lab spaces for the astronauts, includes a factory/experiment unit which focuses on terra-forming and other procedures which could contribute to altering the Mars biosphere for future human habitation. This project was done in collaboration with Sana Nasikwala and Arta Ghoorchian.
